According to recent reports, Toyota manufacturer is working on launching their best-selling SUV Innova and Fortuner with a diesel hybrid powertrain.

According to the report suffering on the internet that Toyota best selling SUV Fortuner and Innova Crysta could likely get a new Hybrid powertrain. The manufacturer is developing its hybrid powertrains for ASEAN markets and more specifically the diesel hybrid is known as GD Hybrid. The GD series of powertrain currently powers the Innova Crysta, Full-Size SUV Fortuner, and Hilux pickup truck, consideration of 2.4 liter 2GD-FTV and 2.8 Litre 1GD-FTV units. The Later engine also used in the Hiace and Hiace Super Grandia, which is produced and sold in Japan only.

The report also stated that earlier the GD hybrid is used for the Hilux pickup trucks sold in Thailand to bring down the taxes and it is also a very popular pickup truck in the Thailand market, but now it could be employed in Full-Size SUV Fortuner. The GD Hybrid developing in the belief that it will help Fortuner for the qualification for EV incentives in Thailand, and it is currently enduring 20 percent of excise taxes which after incentives will cut in Half. This will help the manufacturer to bring Fortuner with a highly aggressive price range. The electric motor also improved the drivability, performance, and fuel economy of the vehicle.

The New hybrid powertrain likely to come into the ASEAN market of Thailand and the Philippines, and the chances of coming into the Indian market cannot be ruled out from it. The New powertrain powers the Innova Crysta and Fortuner. A few months ago, Toyota launched the Mid-life update of Crysta and Fortuner in ASEAN markets with a host of exterior and interior updates. As of now, Fortuner comes powered with a 2.8 Litre Diesel engine that rated at 204PS/500Nm. On the other hand, facelift Innova Crysta powered with 2.7 Litre petrol and 2.4 Litre oil burner, the former rated at 166PS/245Nm and the latter rated at 150PS/343Nm.
