After so many years, the heart and soul of the Indian automobile market remain to be the Hatchback. Although the brands nowadays mainly focus on their SUV lineup, the mainstream of the sales comes from the Hatchback segment. Below is the list of Top 5 hatchbacks that were launched in the decade:-

  • Renault Kwid

The Renault Kwid is the entry-level offering for the French carmaker in the Indian market. It was launched in September 2015, and the facelift has been launched last year. If we talk about this year, Renault expands the Kwid line up with the Neotech edition. Other than this Kwid has completed there 5 years of the first-generation avatars in the Indian market. Renault offers Kwid with a two-engine option. Both the engines are three-cylinder motor. The base variant gets a 0.8 Litre engine that rated as 54 PS of peak power and 68 Nm of peak torque. The top variant comes with a 1.0-liter petrol engine that burns out 68 PS of power and 91 Nm of peak torque when mated with a standard 5-speed manual transmission.

  • Maruti Suzuki Baleno

The Baleno was launched under Nexa dealerships, since the launch Maruti Suzuki Baleno is at the top of selling charts for Maruti Suzuki, and doesn’t seem to slow down a bit. Although the hatchback segment is getting more and more rivals still Baleno manages to rank at the top of all of them. Originally Baleno was launched in 2015, currently, Maruti Suzuki retails Baleno with a starting price of Rs 5.63 lakh which goes up to Rs 8.96 lakhs (ex-showroom). Baleno is powered with a 1.2 Litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine that burns out 83 PS of peak power and 113 Nm of torque. The transmission duties are done by a  standard 5-speed manual gearbox system, while the additional CVT gearbox also offered for higher trim variants.

  • Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Maruti Suzuki Ignis was launched in 2017, but till now it doesn’t get to the mark like other Maruti Suzuki cars. Maruti recently launched the facelift version of Ignis which helps in increasing the sales for the vehicle. The facelift version of Ignis, has an updated grille, new bumper, new features like android auto, apple car play, etc. Alongside a faux skid plate at the back, along with functional roof rails.     

  • Tata Tiago

The tata Tiago is u=currently the most affordable tata car in the Indian market. Recently, it was upgraded to BS6 norms which helps it get new visual updates as well. It was first launched in 2016, the tata offered Tiago with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder NA petrol engine which generates 86 PS of peak power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties are performed by a standard 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional 5-speed automatic transmission gearbox system. Also, the facelifted Tiago gets a 4-star safety rating at the Global NCAP, which is just below their sibling car Tata Altroz.

Tata Motors launched its premium hatchback Altroz in January 2020. Previously tata has failed to mark a point in the premium hatchback segment, although tata entry-level Tiago gets decent response from the Indian customers. The tata Altroz becomes the most selling car for tata in November 2020, which shows the popularity of the car. Currently, tata working on expanding the variant line of Altroz by introducing a turbo petrol engine in the trim-line to attract more buyers.
