With the popularity of SUVs are trending in the Indian market, manufacturer is being creative to launch small size SUV design-inspired vehicles to attract more buyers. Tata finally joined the Micro SUV club In India with the launch of PUNCH. The PUNCH will take on its direct rivals vs Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT in the market, and which Micro-SUV to buy? Here are the answers.

  • Amazing Road presence

SUVs have been a dominating road presence as compared to other two – tata PUNCH offers an amazing road presence. It has the largest footprint above all which means it is the biggest in the segment. The PUNCH is longer, wider and taller than other two KUV100 and Ignis.

However, tata PUNCH has the biggest ground clearance of 187 mm which is the highest in space. Being the biggest in segment it also features with most lightnings are LED DRLs, headlamps and fog lamp housing on lower bumper. Even the Ignis and KUV100 has the DRLs, but misses out the all-around black cladding like PUNCH.

  • Cabin room

The Tata PUNCH and Mahindra KUV100 has head-to-head on that. The tata PUNCH offers the same flat floor on rear as Altroz and no rear AC vents makes it more spacious. Although, KUV100 NXT also offers the same amount of space, legroom, shoulder room and headroom.

However, talking about the boot space KUV100 offers 246 litres of space, while Tata PUNCH offers 366 litres of boot space. However, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis offers lesser legroom, shoulder room and 230 litres of boot space. Although, Ignis has very comfortable rear seats compared to other SUVs.

  • Engine Options

In the past most of the SUVs comes offered with diesel powertrain, but this trend has changed in past year. As the BS6 emission norms has implemented from last year many manufactures has ditched their oil burner. None of it have diesel engine. While, Tata PUNCH comes powered with 1.2 Litre three-cylinder petrol engine develops 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. the engine paired with MT and optional AMT.

The Mahindra KUV100 NXT comes powered with 1.2 Litre petrol engine that generates 83 PS of maximum power and 115 Nm of peak torque. Although, Mahindra and Mahindra only offer 5-speed manual transmission gearbox.

Ignis

Maruti Suzuki Ignis is the only SUV In segment to have 1.2 litre four-cylinder petrol engine developing 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki on other hand provides both MT and AMT.

  • Features list

The all-new tata punch offers with top end features like IRA car connected technology, 90 degree opening doors, apple car play and android auto, auto climate control, auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers, powered auto folding ORVMs, cruise control, auto start stop features and much more.

While, Maruti Suzuki Ignis offers with bigger infotainment enable with android auto and apple car play, Smart play 2.0 Studio, ABS, EBD, dual airbags and much more.

Mahindra KUV100 NXT offers with less features but the interior dashboard comes with carbon fibre dashboard. There is a 7.0-inch infotainment system and rear parking camera. Mahindra also offers with cooled glove box and rear parking sensor.

Tata PUNCH available with a price range from Rs 5.49 lakh to Rs 9.09 lakh ex-showroom. While Maruti Suzuki Ignis priced between Rs 5.10 lakh and Rs 7.47 lakh. Mahindra KUV100 price between Rs 6.13 lakh to Rs 7.84 lakh ex-showroom.

  • Verdict

While, in every space Tata PUNCH has won with major margins. Although, the pricing could be better as these are the introductory prices and will be increased after 31st December 2021. Although, tata PUNCH can easily over come any obstacle with ease as it has larger ground clearance. Apart from that Tata punch can do much more on off-roading compared to other two SUVs.
