Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are working on a global midsize electric SUV and are likely to set up a new team for electric vehicle plans. Although the first electric SUV from a Japanese manufacturer could be launched by 2025.

Honda and General Motors join hands to manufacture affordable electric vehicle cars

Following the announcement of investing of 10,000 crores in electrification plans, Maruti Suzuki has fallen exclusive team for the EV plans and operation known as the new mobility division. The team will report directly to the senior executive director of sales and marketing and Maruti Suzuki India Limited. The project is currently in its implementation stage and required personnel put in place to execute the plan.

Suzuki motor corporation parent company of Maruti Suzuki India Limited will invest in a battery production factory in Gujarat and the first major electric vehicle from the brand is expected to happen by the middle of this decade by 2025 which could be priced between 13,00,000 and goes all the way up to 15,00,000.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are also working on a mid-size SUV that will be launched by the brand later this year. Besides badge-engineered vehicles, the Japanese auto duo is also working on a global midsize electric SUV which is expected to be priced in a lower range compared with MG ZS EV and Kona Hyundai. Upon its launch, it will compete against Tata Nexon EV in terms of pricing but it’ll have a bigger size.

EV will be based on a 27PL platform drive from Toyota’s 40PL it will have a proportion similar to mg zs EV and could act as a manufacturing hub for electric SUVs for the brand. Maruti Suzuki EV is codenamed YY8 and it will be produced in both 2-wheel drive configuration and 4-wheel drive configuration with a possible range of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge.

The Maruti Suzuki and its Toyota derivative will have several commodities including the dimension and the exterior will be developed based on each brand’s requirement. The upcoming 5-seater electric SUV will take advantage of the packaging freedom offered by the platform as well.

Apart from that for this year Maruti Suzuki will launch the facelift version of Ertiga in India and followed by the mildly updated XL6 as well. A compact SUV coupe based on the Baleno Heartect platform and a 7-seater flagship SUV also coming into the domestic market in the coming years.
