Maruti Suzuki has always been at the number 1 spot since it entry in the Indian Auto market with the exception of its SUV segment where the company hasn’t been able make a noticeable dent but with the Jimny gaining significant popularity, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce its 5-door Jimny launching the next year in May 2022. As of right now Maruti Suzuki is producing well over 1500 units of the 3-door Jimny a month in its Manesar plant.
As per the reports the 5-door Jimny will only be produced in India and will be further exported for other countries through NEXA outlets. Like its ongoing 3-door model the 5-door Jimny will be packing the same engine under the hood, which will be a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which will be capable of producing up to 103hp of power and an optimum torque of 140Nm. However, the talks of the full SUV Jimny are for now been conveyed around in code words, the 5-door Jimny being termed as YWD
The decision for the full fledge SUV Jimny was taken by seeing the sales figures obtained by the 3-door Jimny when the car was recently launched in Mexico and got an outstanding response from the Mexican audience. The car was brought into Mexico as an CBU (Completely Build-Up) with about 1000 units. The car got such an amazing response that those 1000 units were sold out in mere 72 hrs. since its launch. The Jimny in Mexico was priced at $409,990 MXN which roughly translates to Rs 15.1 lakh Indian rupees and was able to be booked with a down payment of $20,000 MXN translating to Rs 73,341 Indian rupees.
The 5-door Jimny will be competing against its own brother Maruti Vitra brezza, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Venue and Kia sonnet.
