Jeep recently revealed its new 7-seater SUV that is based on the compass and it is called Jeep Meridian. Jeep will start accepting booking on the 3rd of May and the delivery will start in Mid-June 2022.
Jeep doesn’t reveal pricing and variant of the Meridian once launch it will go directly against Toyota Fortuner and mg Gloster. The manufacturer is already selling Meridian as commander in some global markets like South Africa. After Jeep has made changes to the alloy wheels headlights front bumper design and many other changes have been made to the Indian spec model. Meridian is based on the same platform as the Jeep Compass but the design has been heavily updated no one confuses with the compass.
It gets a longer wheelbase rear overhang rear tail light and has an upright posture and design. Overall, Meridian looks imposing and should have a lot of road presence. At first, the meridian does look similar to the compass but Jeep has made changes to the color schemes and options as well. The compass gets an all-black interior color scheme whereas the Meridian Jeep gets brown which does every upmarket wife in the cabin. Which adds a premium feel to the brown shades with perforated and quilted leather. The rest of the cabin layout says the same as a compass. Jeep will be offering 7-seater only which shows the second row will have to be a bench seat.
Having said you think Jeep can do a 6-seater version with captain seats as well considering MG is already offering Gloster as a 6-seater. Moreover, the 6-seater version will look even more premium than the 7-seater version. On the interior, it comprises of 10.25-inch instrument cluster 10.1-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility wireless charging for mobile phones electrical adjustable front seats dual-zone climate control 360-degree parking camera traction control electronic stability program 6 airbags hills start to assist hill hold assist and much more.
Jeep will be selling Meridian 7-seater SUV only with a 2 little MultiJet diesel engine which is already been used in Tata Harrier and safari Jeep Compass and mg hector. It still produces 170 HP of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. However, Jeep will be recalibrating the engine to handle the additional weight. It is offered with 2 transmission options are offered which are a 6-Speed manual transmission as a standard and a 9-Speed torque converter automatic gearbox as an optional. It is also available in the 2-wheel drive which is a front and all-wheel-drive option. There would be a different drive mode on offer for both configurations.
