- Bajaj dispatched 508 units of Chetak EV last month
- Last month Bajaj reopen bookings for just 48 hours
- Powering the chetak EV is 3 KWh lithium-ion battery pack delivering power to single 4kW electric motor
Bajaj Auto India last month registered over 508 units of its sole electric two-wheeler offering in India, Chetak EV. This is the highest ever positive sales growth saw by EV in recent times, as it gets over 464.44 percent of growth when compared on a MOM basis. In March 2021, the manufacturer only sold 90 units of Chetak EV, although there is no year-on-year basis comparison because last year no product was sold due to total lockdown courtesy of health crisis. That being said, all the dealerships and production houses have been shut down for a while.
It should be noted that the bookings for the Chetak EV have been on halt mainly due to the manufacturer constraints like shortage of semi-conductor etc. Last month, the company open re-opened the bookings for EV for just over 48 hours only and again closed until further notice. Bajaj currently retails Chetak EV in just two states Bengaluru and Pune. While the manufacturer has announced expanding in two more cities – Hyderabad and Chennai, as the retail network expands the sales volume also goes high with it.
As for performance, the Chetak EV comes powered by an IP67-rated 3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which deliveries power to the sole 4 kW electric motor. With that, the scooter can deliver a riding range of 95 km in a single charge. Although, it offers two riding modes Eco and sport mode. The battery can be fully charged in over 5 hours and can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in over three and half hours. Bajaj offers Chetak EV in six color options – Cyber white, Velluto Rosso, Citrus rush, Indigo metallic, Brooklyn black, and hazelnut.
