Kia Motors will be unveiling its new 7-seater variant of the successful Kia Sonet on April 8, 2021 in the Indonesian market. This 7-seater car will first be introduced in Indonesia then will make its way to India till the next month.
The five-seater model of Kia is already available in both Indonesian and Indian market, however, the sonet sold there is a tiny bit different than the Indian version in terms of length where the Indian version measures 3,995 mm while the Indonesian version measures 4,120 mm and both of them are produced at the Anantapur plant in India.
From certain sources at least this is known, that the 7-seater Kia Sonet will retain the current size of the 5-seater with the 3rd row compromised with the boot space. This will make the 2nd row seat slide and open for the 3rd row entry and with the introduction of the 3rd row boot space will be reduced to none. While for the space the 3rd row will be a pretty tight fit for 2 adults. As for the engine the car will be rocking the same powertrain option as the current Kia Sonet, which is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 113 hp of max power, coupled with a 6-speed MT or CVT gearbox.
Now the question is wheatear the 7-seater Kia Sonet will be introduced in Indian market or not. There isn’t any clear conformation about will the car enter the Indian market or not, but the production of the car still remains in India so there is a high chance that the company will be introducing the 7-seater version here also, and with the current trend of carmakers converting their cars from 5 seaters to 6 or 7-seaters like with the Tata Harrier to Tata safari, MG Hector to MG Hector + and Hyundai Creta to Hyundai Alcazar this possibility seems possible.
