Mercedes Benz India today has announced the launch of Made in India S-Class for the Indian market. While the overall design remains the same as the CBU route imported one but features some subtle updates and changes. Back in June 2021, the luxury German carmaker has introduced the new generation of S-class In India. However, after the S-class gets a good reception, so the brand has decided to bring the kits from abroad to locally assembled S-class in India. The first unit of locally assembled S-Class production version has been rolling out from the Pune plant with 50% of aluminum content in the body shell, reducing 60kg of weight from an overall sedan.

The best in segment features gets a 45-degree recliner for the rear seat along with massage function alongside MBUX rear tablet. The made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-class is offered in two variants petrol and diesel – S 350d and S 450 4MATIC, priced at Rs 1.57 crore and Rs 1.62 crore ex-showroom, PAN India. While if we compared it to fully imported S 400d and S 450, the prices are down by around Rs 60 lakhs for diesel engine and Rs 55 lakh cheaper for petrol powertrain. As the S-class CBU route came with the exclusive edition trim, the locally assembled sedan lost out some of the exterior highlights. Now offered with different bumpers and different alloy wheel designs.

Mercedes Benz S-class Made in India launched

In addition, rear-wheel steering is not offered as standard. As for performance Mercedes S-class, the S 350d uses the 3.0 Litre inline 6-cylidner oil burner producing 286 HP of maximum power and 600 Nm of peak torque. the powertrain comes paired with 9-speed Automatic auto-driving rear wheels. While S 450 4MATIC comes powered with a 3.0 liter 6-cylinder hybrid petrol engine, generating 367 HP of power and 500 Nm of torque. the petrol engine coupled with a 48V electric motor makes 22 HP and 250 Nm and paired with 9-speed AT. The interior continues to have a 12.8-inch infotainment system, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a new Burmester 3D sound, Nappa leather upholstery, electronically adjustable driver seats, 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and many car connected features.
